Definitions:
Diversity is the presence of differences within a giving setting that includes individual and organizational characteristics, values, beliefs, experiences, backgrounds, preferences, and behaviors. A person isn’t diverse, they’re unique and can bring diversity to a group.
Equity ensures everyone has access to the same opportunities. Equity recognizes that we don’t all start from the same place because advantages and barriers exist. It’s a process that acknowledges uneven starting places and seeks to correct the imbalance.
Inclusion is when people with different identities feel valued, leveraged, welcomed, and have equal access to opportunities and resources, so they can contribute fully to the organization’s success.
