We Honor Veterans

Delivering Veteran-centric care to those who served our country

Many Americans do not realize that 1 in 4 of all deaths in the U.S. are Veterans. As the nation honors these American heroes for their military service, Houston Hospice stands with Veterans and is there with an uncompromising commitment to recognize their service and provide compassionate care when dealing with a serious illness.

As a We Honor Veterans Level Four Hospice Partner, Houston Hospice is providing specialized care to Veterans who are facing a life-limiting illness. We have developed and strengthened relationships with VA Medical Center and other Veteran organizations through staff and volunteer education programs and key Hospice-Veteran partnerships. One of our goals is to ensure that Veterans are aware of community and education resources available. Click here for 8 things to know about VA healthcare

The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs created We Honor Veterans to empower healthcare providers across America to meet the unique needs of seriously ill Veterans and their families.  Play the We Honor Veterans video that describes hospice partnerships with this invaluable organization.

One of the ways we are meeting the specific needs of Veterans is by being knowledgeable about the wars in which they served and the associated traumas. Additionally, our veteran volunteers are teamed up with our veteran patients, and Houston Hospice offers educational programs for Veterans’ groups about advance care planning, available resources, and care options.
