Houston Hospice 21st Butterfly Luncheon

May 6 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

21st Annual Houston Hospice Butterfly Luncheon

The Houston Hospice 21st Butterfly Luncheon benefiting Houston Hospice and its Butterfly Program for pediatric hospice patients and their families is set for Friday, May 6, 2022, 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at The Junior League of Houston.

We are thrilled to have Miss America 1988 Kaye Lani Rafko-Wilson as our special keynote speaker. As the first registered nurse to win the competition, Key Lani continues to support the nursing profession and champions the benefits of hospice care and grief support across the country. She started the Hospice of Monroe in her hometown of Monroe, Michigan and has worked as a hospice nurse embodying the quote by Dame Cicely Saunders, founder of the modern hospice movement: “You matter because you are you, and you matter to the end of your life. We will do all we can not only to help you die peacefully, but also to live until you die.”

Philanthropist Janet F. McKenzie is the 21st Butterfly Luncheon Chair and is accompanied by Houston Hospice Board Member Sarita Armstrong Hixon as Honorary Chair.

This year’s special event thoughtfully corresponds with National Nurses Week. It is Houston Hospice’s honor to host these frontline Registered Nurses and Certified Nurses Assistants at this year’s luncheon. Please let us know if you would like to host a hospice nurse or two as your table guests during our luncheon.

The Butterfly Program

Houston Hospice created The Butterfly Program to care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families. These special pediatric patients range in age from perinatal to under the age of 18. The Butterfly Team consists of a pediatric physician, registered nurses, social workers, hospice aides, chaplains, bereavement counselors and volunteers who are devoted to caring for children and their families.
