Physician Opportunities

Multiple opportunities exist for adult and pediatric team physicians — full- or part-time, contracted or employed with benefits — as well as part-time, on-call coverage.


Team Physicians

Team physicians are responsible for providing care, directly or in consultation, consistent with Houston Hospice policies and standards of medical care, for hospice patients as assigned by the medical director.

Team Physician Duties/Responsibilities

  • Palliation and management of terminal illness and conditions related to the terminal illness
  • Participate in the development of the Plan of Care for assigned patients, including managing oversight of medications and treatment
  • Collaboration with the assigned interdisciplinary team (IDT) to ensure the medical needs of the patient are met and providing oversight of the plan of care
  • Certify and recertify hospice eligibility
  • Ensure the provision of direct medical services to assigned patients in the absence of an outside attending physician
  • Attend regular IDT meetings for assigned patients
  • Document in patient’s electronic clinical record
  • Participate in on-call rotation, in cooperation with the medical director

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of medicine or osteopathy, currently licensed to practice medicine in the State of Texas
  • History of initial ABMS Board Certification in a related specialty

On-Call Physicians

On-Call physicians participate in the call rotation, in cooperation with the medical director, providing relief for team physicians.

On-Call Physician Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provide coverage for patient needs by phone 24/7, typically one week per month
  • Accept and give orders for after-hours and weekend admissions
  • Weekend rounds in our free-standing inpatient unit
  • Document in patient’s electronic clinical record
  • Coordinate with team physicians when necessary

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of medicine or osteopathy, currently licensed to practice medicine in the State of Texas
  • History of initial ABMS Board Certification in a related specialty
