Volunteers: Non-Patient Assistance
Many office volunteers are needed to help in our various
departments. Volunteers send bereavement and chaplain notes, and make
phone calls. Volunteers help with bulk mailings, data entry, filing,
shredding, medical records and packet preparation. We need volunteers to
pick up and deliver patient supplies and donations for the thrift shop.
Volunteers are needed to work in the thrift shop. Volunteers also help
patient families with special need projects. Special Events Volunteers are
needed for the Notecard and Quilt Projects and other Fund Raising Events.
Bulk Mail - Volunteers sort, label and prepare invitations, newsletters and other
office mail in preparation for the Post Office Bulk Mail Unit. This team works
as needed and has a great time. You should enjoy detail work and good company.
Chaplain's Notes - Volunteer's copy
and address hand-written notes for the Hospice Chaplain. Legible
penmanship helpful.
Computer work - Volunteers are needed in many departments to do data entry, create forms,
and prepare documents. Some knowledge of computers is helpful, but not
necessary.
Delivery and Pickup - Volunteers who enjoy driving, will pick up supplies for patients, pickup
and deliver donations to our Thrift Shop or to our office, and run errands for
patients.
Handy Man/Woman - Volunteers are often needed to build a wheelchair ramp, tend a garden or
repair a handrail for a patient. This job is as needed.
Hospice Quilt Project - Stitchers, sewers, quilters all join together and create an annual quilt
to be used for a fund raising project.
Note Card Project - Since 1984, volunteers have come together weekly to paint note cards that
are then sold to raise funds for Houston Hospice. Designers, painters, packers,
folders and friends are welcome. The cards are preprinted and easy to paint.
Office and Clerical - Volunteers are needed to file, to operate the copy and fax machines,
shredders, prepare handout packets and keep the office running smoothly. All departments are open for this job.
Special Events - Volunteers represent Houston Hospice at fun events like the International
Quilt Show, church bazaars, and other fund raising events through out the year.
You will sell our note cards and angels and other items as available.
Thrift Shop- Volunteers will work in the St. Christopher's Houston Hospice
Thrift Shop at 1650 Blalock from 10AM to 3PM any day except Mondays and
Sundays. The Thrift Shop needs volunteers of all ages and interests who enjoy working with people.
