PROGRAMS – The Butterfly Program“Measure not the length of their days, but the grace of their flight.”Houston Hospice cares for the terminally ill patients and their families in many ways. To better serve children, Houston Hospice initiated The Butterfly Program, providing special services for children with life-limiting conditions who are aged 18 and younger. This program includes perinatal hospice for those families that have been told of a prenatal diagnosis that indicates their baby likely will have a limited lifespan. The Butterfly Program was developed in 1996. A team of physicians, nurses, social workers, hospice aides and volunteers has expertise in children's care and are devoted to caring for the children and their families. As part of the Butterfly Program, the Wings program provides bereavement support to children who have lost a parent, sibling or other loved one with a seven-week curriculum designed to be age appropriate. This program is open to any child in the community and contains a concurrent program for the child's parent or guardian. |
