Patient Services : The Butterfly Program
Houston Hospice cares for the terminally ill and their families in many ways. To better serve children, the Hospice initiated The Butterfly Program, providing special services to children in three areas.
Houston Hospice developed the Butterfly Program in 1996 to provide support for children with life limiting illnesses and their families. A separate care team provides Butterfly services to patients from birth to age 18 years. This team of physicians, nurses, social workers, home health aides, and volunteers has expertise in children's care.
As part of the Butterfly program, The Wings program provides bereavement support to children who have lost a parent, sibling or other loved one with a seven-week curriculum designed to be age appropriate. This program is open to any child in the community and contains a concurrent program for the child's parent or guardian.
